DRUM!

The Rhythm of Life
The most widely-spread instrument in the world has an exhibition of its own at Musikmuseet.

At feasts and funerals, throughout life, drums are played all over the world. The power of the drum has sometimes been so great and threatening that it has been forbidden – and burned – by those in power in Sweden and in other parts of the world.
Yet those in power have used it to drum up warlike lust.

The power of the drum is enormous. Why does it affect us so much, why does it fascinate us so? Perhaps because we heard the rhythm of life when we were in the womb...

In this exhibition you meet many kinds of drums in many contexts: Magic drums, rocking drums, playful drums, ritual drums, modern drums, ancient drums...

Try "Sebastian's djembe school" or play with Lieutenant Qvarnström in "The Army's Drum School"!
You can even try drumming without a drum!

As usual, Musikmuseet has lots to listen to and play!
